The Only New Year’s Resolution You Need

Tis the season for new years goals.

I love the reflection and contemplation the end of the year brings. Sure, I have the whole year to reflect on my life and course correct when needed, but there is something special about the new year. It’s a natural restart. A chance to look ahead and learn from the mistakes of last year.

For the last several years, however, I’ve refused to make any new years resolutions. Mostly because I find them cliche. But in all honesty, I don’t think I’ve always found them helpful. It’s just a bunch of extra pressure added to my already stressful life. I’m never sure what goals to set. Can anyone else relate?

But this year, I like the idea of adding some structure to my year. I have a lot of things I want to accomplish, but I’ve always been too scared to start.

In the past I’ve had ideas to start a podcast, write a book, start a new gym routine and so on and so on. But do you know what? I’ve never really taken action on any of those things. Mostly because I’ve been too afraid to start.

I think it’s time to finally jump in and go for it. I don’t want fear to define my 2022.

If you’re like me and you don’t typically do New Years Resolutions, why don’t you join me in setting some goals? They don’t have to be big or complicated. In fact, the less complicated the better.

Here’s how simple my new year’s resolutions are.

  • Be a better friend
  • Start writing more for fun
  • Read more books
  • Grow in my relationship with Christ

I hope you do some amazing things this year. I hope you crush your goals. I hope you find joy and happiness. But most of all, I hope you grow in your relationship with Christ. It really is the only thing that matters.

Join me in spending more time in God’s word, more time in praying for others, and more time in serving the body of Christ in real ways that make a difference.

A Prayer for the End of the Year
