The Gospel Music Docu Series Covering One Family’s 50 Grammy Legacy

12 children, 6 generations, 50 Grammy Awards…1 powerful legacy.

The Winans family just announced an upcoming seven-part documentary film series called “Thankful.”

The project, from 5-0 Studios London and Michael Winans, traces the family’s history over more than five generations, spanning over 200 years. In those years, the family has collectively earned over 50 Grammy Awards and became legendary in the Gospel music industry.

Starting with the story of their family’s ancestors, Louis and Ruby Winans, from their enslavement to the liberation of their descendants. Louis Winans was given his surname by his sharecropper owner Reverend Winans in the 1800’s.

The series will feature a soundtrack with over 100 talented music artists from around the globe collaborating on this project!

Before CeCe and BeBe Winans took off with their individual Gospel music careers, in the 80s the family had a quartet formed by four of the brothers: Marvin, Carvin, Michael, and Ronald, who began recording in 1981 called themselves ‘The Winans.’ And then “Mom & Pop Winans” releasing music in 1989.

CeCe Winans (a 12-time Grammy Award winner herself), whose daughter, Ashley Love, gave birth to the singer’s first grandchild, Wyatt, in 2021.

You understand the importance of everything in the world and how it will impact that little one. I am so honored to sing gospel music. I’m so, so blessed that I truly believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And I’m excited about God being a God of generations; that He keeps being faithful. Debbie Winans released a song on November 10th 2023 called, you guessed it…thankful!

Whether this song is in the series or not, learning about this family’s history and understanding the impact that they have on music ministry is just incredible. Now we just have to wait for a release date!
