The Creator of The Fairly OddParents May Have Just Released the Next VeggieTales… “The Garden”

Animator Butch Hartman has launched a new Bible based cartoon, The Garden. You may know Butch’s work from shows like Nickelodeon’s Fairly OddParents and Danny Phantom. Butch has worked in the animation industry for over 36 years. He and his wife, Julieann realized the power in entertainment and decided to begin a mission of creating content to honor God and help people know more about Him.

Following in the footsteps of shows like Veggie Tales, they developed the idea of The Garden.  It is “A Place Where the Gospel Grows” and follows characters Lenny the Lion and Lucy the Lamb as they receive messages from “the boss” of things that need to be done in the garden.

Butch told Shawn Bolz in an interview that there aren’t many Christian cartoons available for kids and people of all ages.

“The Garden straight up teaches kids Scripture, it teaches them the Bible, who Jesus is… we want something entertaining and fun that teaches them the Bible as well.”

Butch recalls shows he watched as a child like School House Rock that taught him important concepts set to catchy tunes. Using that same concept, an important part of the show became putting Scripture into music. Many kids are already spending lots of time watching TV and consuming content on cell phones and apps. This show meets them where they are with positive truth and faith based content.

The series currently has 40 episodes with plans to continue adding new episodes. Some episodes are available on PureFlix and all of the episodes can be found in the Garden Cartoon App. A virtual summer VBS is also available in the app to work along with the series with ideas for additional learning, crafts and snacks! In addition to the series, Butch illustrated The Garden Children’s Bible published by Harper Collins.

The Hartman’s recently celebrated the the release of the app and publication of the children’s Bible with a launch party at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.
