Forrest Frank’s “Child of God” album is currently topping the charts. With several incredible collaborations like Tori Kelly, Hulvey, and CAIN– for me, this project is the definition of a “no skip album.”
Two sermons and a single phone call, reaching millions with the powerful truth: you are a child of God. But, some of the most impactful moments from this album, are the moments when Forrest doesn’t even sing at all…
1. “WHAT LIVING IS ALL ABOUT”
This intro song from the album includes powerful snippets of Forrest Frank’s Grandpa’s testimony that he shared at the 1985 Billy Graham Fort Lauderdale Crusade.
Dr. Neil Frank tells his story of dropping his kids to Sunday School and feeling convicted after a church member told him that
“If there is something here for them, don’t you think there is something here for you?”
Neil goes into describing this feeling of “the veil being lifted” and understanding things in the Word that he never understood before. If I could describe this testimony in three words: Jesus changes everything.
It’s incredible to see young people honoring the faith of their parents and even their grandparents. Forrest Frank got to honor his grandad by playing this clip from Neil’s sermon on tour.

2. “HEY GRANDAD”
This 8th song, right in the middle of the album includes a recording of a phone call between Forrest and his grandad Neil. 40 years later after the Billy Graham crusade, Forrest asks his grandfather, “How much of that statement is true?” After Neil gives Forrest a hearty reply of “More so (now) than ever,” he later gives his grandson some heartwarming encouragement:
“Well, Forrest there’s no question that God has singled you out. To reach out to the younger generation.” | Dr. Neil Frank
3. “CHILD OF GOD”
I was driving to the beach when suddenly, I had to check Spotify to see if I was still on the album. Because what I was hearing wasn’t singing— and it didn’t sound like Forrest at all.
I realized I had indeed reached the final track on Forrest Frank’s album which was a powerful sermon by Jonathan Pokluda (author and lead pastor of a church in Texas). From this message, I heard something that brought me to instant tears:
“There’s no disqualifying disability that the Lord turns away.”
The message continues on to give different scenarios of hardships and sins that we face in our lives. But, no matter what we do or where we go, God loves us and calls us His own.
Anyone who would trust in the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
For the forgiveness of sins can be adopted as God’s children.
We can be His kids, not His slaves.
Not His workers, not people who are trying to earn our allowance.
Not someone who’s trying to earn a wage.
But women and men, who have been adopted by the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth
To be His children to call Him Abba Father | Jonathan Pokluda
To me, the real message of this album is: Just be His kid again.
The JOY of the Lord is your strength. Having child-like faith also means just having fun sometimes. You can listen to these upbeat songs, and worship the Lord. You can dance around the room, and just be a kid again.
