“I Still Believe (2020) The true-life story of Christian music star Jeremy Camp and his journey of love and loss that looks to prove there is always hope.” -iMDb
At the start of the movie Jeremy is a college freshman who has a passion for songwriting and he is hungry to learn more about the music industry. Jean-Luc of The Kry takes Jeremy under his wing and teaches Jeremy that pursuing a career in music isn’t about “making it.” It’s about what your songs can give people.
But this movie is less about song-writing and more about love.
So let’s call it what it is, Jeremy & Melissa’s love story is a classic “ring by spring” Christian college rom-com. He sees her worshipping in the audience with her hands up and BOOM… You know it’s all over… Jeremy Camp falls head over heels for Melissa Henning.
If I’m being honest I can’t really judge the cheese of it because I met my husband at a Christian college in an eerily similar way. 😅
While the playful college romance may induce some major eye-rolls, POWER THROUGH. You’ll get to experience what love really means as Jeremy mans up and marries her in the middle of one of the scariest roads anybody could ever walk- Melissa’s battle with cancer.
I took 3 lessons away from the movie. Each one emboldened my faith, and they’re worth sharing with you.
God’s will for your life is probably bigger than you you think it is.
While Jeremy & Melissa are still getting to know one another he asks her “What do you want to do with your life?” Melissa answers… “Everything. All of it. But apparently I’m supposed to choose just one thing.” #relatable
The first time I remember feeling this way was my freshman year of college. I had so many good paths to choose from in life, so many “good” paths, so many paths that look like they could be God’s will for my life. So how was I supposed to choose just one?
In the film, Melissa feels the same way I did. Maybe you do too. If you do, remember The God of a trillion galaxies knows your name and He has a destiny for you. Share on X
After Melissa has wrestled through trying to find God’s will, she realizes, and we should realize too, that “Maybe God has chosen something bigger for me, something I wouldn’t have chosen myself. But if even one person’s life is changed by what I go through… it will all be worth it.”
We shouldn’t be afraid to expect miracles.
Jeremy’s boldness in the film was inspiring. We shouldn’t be afraid to ask God for miracles in our lives! Ask yourself this: do you truly believe God can make a way and work a miracle? If so, don’t be afraid to ask Him to move in big ways in your life.
In one scene where Jeremy’s on stage, he speaks to the crowd about how Melissa constantly reaches out to God in worship. He reminds the crowd of the story in Luke 8:43-48 of the woman who reached out to touch the hem of Jesus’ robe while believing in faith it would make her well. He invites the entire stadium to reach out to God and pray for Melissa’s healing. THAT’S SOME BOLD FAITH, JEREMY! It’s a faith that expects God to be who we know He is- a miracle worker.
Our life can be full even though some prayers aren’t fully answered.
No spoiler alerts here, everyone knows how the story goes. In the end Melissa loses her battle with cancer. But for Jeremy this presents a huge wrestling match with the Lord about why God didn’t answer his prayers. I know I’ve felt the same way.
In a honest conversation with his dad, Jeremy presents several prayers that went unanswered and he wonders out loud, “What am I supposed to do with that?” Jeremy’s dad doesn’t have all the answers, and honestly, neither do I, BUT here’s what he does know: life isn’t full in spite of our disappointments, it’s full because of them. This movie shows that suffering doesn’t have to destroy our faith. Suffering can refine our faith and make us dig deeper into our relationship with the Lord and His goodness.
Let’s make it personal.
Their story is about love and loss, but what is your story? What is the struggle you face? At the end of the day, can you find the strength to believe in God’s faithfulness despite cancer? Despite unemployment? Despite debt? Despite fear? Despite divorce? Despite any loss? Despite any suffering?
I Still Believe inspired me to find strength in God through each personal battle I face, and it reminded me God is trustworthy. If you need encouragement, share this blog with a friend, go see the movie together, and be reminded God is faithful. He can handle your questions. He can handle your anger. He can handle your confusion. And you can rest in His faithfulness even when it’s hard for you to say, “I still believe.”

I just watched the movie about Jeremy and Melissa Camp I still believe. I had given up on hearing from God months ago. A semi loaded slammed my head to the asphalt at 2 million pounds impact in less then 0.03 seconds. I’m alive yes but honestly. I thought because I can’t walk without a cane my head has pounded for over 12 months. The list goes on. And especially my 6’1 215 lb frame swindled down to 177 but mostly saddened because I couldn’t run marathons. Anymore. My life was over. Thank God for this movie. This story. Thank… Read more »
I love this movie it has inspired me a lot to have a faith like Jeremy and to be bold to ask to God to do the impossible for men and I am true grateful to the writer of this movie he also motivated me to share my story and God bless the team who has created this wonderful movie for us as the believes of Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior.
I have reached a level in my life where I don’t believe love still exist because of the treatment I had as a child when I was growing. The experience was terrible because the people I grew with make me believe that only money can give me love and Joy. But that was a pure lie because even when I had the money I still don’t feel any love rather I became more frustrated and depressed. But this movie “I still believe” changed my whole story and believe. Now I still believe in love, I still believe in miracle, I… Read more »
