Why This Tattoo Story Points to Something Deeper

So this post about sobriety tattoos came across our feeds a while back, and the team just sat with it. Why? Because we know tattoos can be a sensitive topic in Christianity.

On one hand, Leviticus 19:28 warns against marking the body, a command given to Israel as part of living set apart from surrounding cultures. On the other hand, many believers point out that these laws were fulfilled, not erased, through Jesus Christ, and faithful Christians land in different places on how that applies today.

But before you stop reading… This Story Isn’t Really About TATTOOS.

It’s about remembering that every single day fighting matters, even when the ending isn’t what we hoped. It’s a powerful reminder that God sees the effort, the struggle and the perseverance… not just the outcome.

So instead of focusing on the tattoo itself, maybe the better question is this: what helps someone stay the course?

Whether it’s sobriety, grief, or any struggle we’re surrendering to God, the real issue isn’t what’s on our skin, it’s what’s shaping our heart and sustaining our perseverance.

Here are a few simple, everyday ways to stay grounded when the road feels long:

  • Stay rooted in God’s Word daily — Psalm 119:105
  • Lean on community instead of isolating — Galatians 6:2
  • Take it one day at a time with God’s help — Matthew 6:34

Every day that we persevere through life deserves to be celebrated, but life undoubtedly comes with its challenges. If you want to dive deeper into the mystery of suffering – and how to find hope in the midst of it – join our FREE study!
