Jimmie Allen, a popular country music artist, recently invited FOR KING + COUNTRY to join him on CMT Crossroads, which brings artists from different genres to combine their musical styles and collaborate on each other’s music. In this hour long special, filmed at the Factory in Franklin, TN, Jimmie joins Joel and Luke on their songs “Relate”, “Joy” “God Only Knows”, and “What Are We Waiting For?”
The friendship between Jimmie Allen and Joel and Luke Smallbone goes back 15 years! They met at a recording studio in Nashville before either became popular musicians. In the early days, the boys would often meet for breakfast at a little local deli in Franklin to discuss their music and dream about their careers. Since then, they have been there to support and encourage each other as their careers grew. So when the 2021 CMA New Artist of the Year was asked to perform on CMT Crossroads, Jimmie said that FOR KING + COUNTRY is the first band that came to mind.
“I listen to tons of Christian music, and I’ve listened to their music since before they had a record deal,” Allen said. “So I’ve been knowing FOR KING & COUNTRY songs for as long as they’ve been making songs.”
CMT played a fun game with them to see how well they know each other! Check it out:

FOR KING + COUNTRY joined Jimmie on his songs, “Freedom was a Highway”, “Best Shot” and “Be Alright”.
The musicians pay tribute to their parents in a touching moment from the episode. They sing “Unsung Heros”, a song written by Joel and Luke for their mother and Jimmie’s latest #1 hit “Down Home” written for his father who raised him to love country music. Jimmie’s father passesd away from kidney failure in 2019.
Although their style in music may be very different, they both put on an energetic performance. That, along with their friendship, makes this CMT Crossroads episode a lot of fun to watch. Jimmie says they also have these things in common:
“One of the main things that runs true for them and me — no matter the styles of music we sing — is definitely believing in God and trusting we’re on our path that’s designed for us,” he said. “Other places where I think we cross is the hard work, the love for family, the love for friends and the love for doing whatever it takes to get what we want out of life, not what people think we should settle for in life.”
