Okay, so did you watch American Idol this year?
Because if you have, then you’ve definitely seen Breanna Nix. Yes, the stay-at-home mom from Denton, Texas, who literally brought worship to the Idol stage week after week.
So many moments with songs we love by Lauren Daigle, Danny Gokey, and Katy Nichole to name a few. Carrie Underwood (who was her mentor a lot throughout the season) even said that Breanna singing Lauren Daigle was like watching Adele in her zone. I mean… what a compliment.
One of the most unforgettable moments was when she sang “Gratitude” during the head-to-head round.
Jelly Roll was mentoring that day, and he literally FaceTimed Brandon Lake in the middle of rehearsals because of how good they sounded. Brandon’s reaction? He said it was “the most gorgeous version of ‘Gratitude’ I’ve ever heard.”

Breanna went from covering Brandon Lake to singing with him during the finale! They sang Brandon’s new single “Daddy’s DNA.”
We loved how real and open Breanna was about her faith. She wasn’t trying to “fit in” or water it down. And somehow, even in a competition that’s usually about flash and star power, she made it all about Jesus. Respect.
Here’s one of our favorite covers from this season when she covered “In Jesus’ Name” by Katy Nichole. Wait until you see the adorable two-second shot of her son, blink and you’ll miss it.
It kind of reminds me of how American Idol has been a launchpad for other Christian artists like Mandisa, Danny Gokey and Colton Dixon. Speaking of them, there’s this fun video of the two of them trying to guess songs by former Idol contestants and judges, definitely worth a watch if you’re in the mood for nostalgia.
We don’t know where God is going to take Breanna next, but one thing’s for sure: she’s made an impact. She used her voice and her platform to spread hope, to sing about Jesus, and to show people what it looks like to stand firm in your faith.
