Phil Wickham Covers the Rich Mullins Classic “Awesome God”

Phil Wickham just dropped some exciting news—he’s reimagining the iconic 80s song, Awesome God. You know, that worship anthem that’s been around forever?

Rich Mullins wrote it back in 1988, and it’s one of those songs everyone just knows. He teased it on Instagram the other day, asking, “What do you guys think?”—and people are freaking out (in the best way).

Apparently, he’s been getting tons of requests to cover it, so he finally made it happen. And honestly? It sounds incredible.

This song has had some epic versions over the years—Michael W. Smith did a powerful take on it, to the point where people thought that the song was actually written by Michael.

Kirk Franklin brought it into his legendary He Reigns/Awesome God mashup.

Now, Phil’s putting his own worship-driven style into it, and we don’t have to wait long to hear the full thing. What An Awesome God officially drops on April 11!

If you grew up singing this one, get ready—it’s about to hit differently.
