A Week Away: The Series, a Brand-New TV Spinoff of the Netflix Movie is Here

Remember A Week Away? That 2021 Netflix hit that felt like High School Musical crashed church camp?

Well, the fire isn’t out yet. 🔥 Angel Studios just launched A Week Away: The Series, a brand-new spinoff that brings us back to Camp Aweegaway. The series kicked off on August 28, 2025, with new episodes every Thursday on the Angel app (yes, free to stream thanks to their Pay-It-Forward model).

Directed by Alan Powell, the film’s co-writer and founding member of Anthem Lights. The show isn’t just retelling the movie; it’s diving into fresh teen stories that unfold over one life-changing week at camp, complete with new music, new characters, and a whole lot of heart.

The Cast

Angel Studios and Monarch Media stacked the lineup:

  • Leigh-Allyn Baker (Disney’s Good Luck Charlie) brings the camp-mom energy.

  • Carlos PenaVega (Big Time Rush) Straight out of his reunion tour, here he is.

  • David Koechner (Anchorman) reprises the camp director’s presence you remember from the film.

  • Cozi Zuehlsdorff (Dolphin Tale) not only stars—she also writes and produces on the series.

Bonus “in-the-know” nugget: Cozi has said C.S. Lewis inspired elements of her character’s faith journey—watch for literary Easter eggs woven into the season. 📚✨

The Music

Music fans, here’s your goosebump alert: the show’s creative team includes Adam Watts, the songwriter/producer behind hits for High School Musical, Camp Rock, and Hannah Montana (Watts also produced music for the original movie). So, we are in for a treat.

Choreography and staging are in good hands, too: producer Paul Becker, best known for work on the Descendants franchise and other big dance-centric projects.

How to Watch

Angel kicked things off with a two-episode premiere on August 28, followed by weekly drops each Thursday(Episode 3 on September 4, etc.). Everything streams free in the Angel app, with the option to Pay It Forward if you want to help fund future episodes (and keep access free for others). ⛺️🎶
