If your church hasn’t sung “Shout to the Lord” at some point, you’re either too young to remember or you were living under a rock. 🙌
The worship anthem, written by Darlene Zschech in 1993 while serving at Hillsong Australia, has been covered by countless artists for more than 30 years. And now, it’s back in the spotlight.
Recently, Darlene joined with CeCe Winans on vocals and Michael W. Smith on keys for a brand-new recording. (A collaboration that feels like a Mount Rushmore of worship leaders.) This song still holds up just as powerfully today as it did three decades ago.

Darlene has shared that she wrote “Shout to the Lord” during a season of financial stress. Sitting at the little out-of-tune piano her mom bought when she was 5, she opened her Bible to Psalm 95–100 and began to sing. She wrote the song in 20 minutes.
“To be honest, this song came at a time when the burdens of life were heavy, and I sat at my little out of tune piano and worshipped. I opened my Bible to Psalm 95, and then through to Psalm 100, I simply sang, prayed and worshipped Jesus. He has my heart, and I have always known a God who delights in caring for and carrying our burdens.” | Darlene Zschech

But this moment isn’t just about one song. It’s part of a much bigger project called House of Worship, where more than 25 artists are coming together to reimagine and revive songs that have shaped modern worship over the decades.
Alongside Darlene, CeCe, and Michael, you’ll hear names like Matt Redman, Cody Carnes, Kari Jobe, Brian & Jenn Johnson, Chris Brown, Josh Baldwin, Israel Houghton, Leeland, Naomi Raine, Pat Barrett, and so many more.
As Michael W. Smith put it:
“What drew me to House of Worship was the opportunity to be a part of something that unites generations through songs that have shaped the Church. And to sing them with so many leaders in different seasons of ministry, all joined in worship, was something I will never forget!” | Michael W. Smith
The fact that this project kicks off with “Shout to the Lord” is wild in itself, because that’s a straight-up banger. But if this is only the start, what’s coming next?
The full House of Worship album is set to be released by January 2026, and if the opener is any clue, it’s about to be one of the biggest worship collaborations in decades.
