Pumpkin spice and fall activities make everything nice. 🍂🍁🎃
Every year, without fail, my family makes a point to visit a pumpkin patch and carve or paint pumpkins together. It’s a tradition I look forward to year after year. We always go to the same house to pick out pumpkins, but this year, due to the storms and damage from Hurricane Helene, we couldn’t make it, and it’s likely the house was completely destroyed, like much of the surrounding area.
But, as Ross Geller from FRIENDS would say, we didn’t abandon tradition – we had to PIVOT!
Instead of the aesthetic pumpkin patch, we ended up at our local grocery store. And guess what? It was still just as fun. As cheesy as it sounds, it wasn’t about the location—it was about the time we spent together.
If you’re looking for some fresh ideas or just want to shake things up with your family, here are a few fun fall activities you can enjoy together.
Gratitude Journal
It’s the season of thanks—and we’re not just talking about the mashed potatoes! There are plenty of ways to start a gratitude journal for your family. A simple way to begin is by writing down what you’re thankful for each day. If you have little ones, you can share around the dinner table, and mom or dad can jot it down.
Another idea is to keep a calendar on the fridge where you write something new every day. For a more reflective approach, try setting a 10-minute timer for everyone to write in their own journals. Then, come together and share what you’ve written. Need a few prompts to get started? Here are some ideas:
-
- What’s something in nature you’re thankful for?
- What part of your personality are you grateful for?
- What’s a food you love that you’re thankful for?
- What’s one moment from this year you’re especially grateful for?
And if you keep the journals, you can see what God has provided for your family in all of those past seasons of life.

Worship Bonfire
If your family has even a hint of musical talent, it’s time to grab that guitar and gather around. But even if you’re not the most musically gifted, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered with a playlist for your campfire worship. There’s something incredibly powerful about worshiping Jesus together as a family. Let the music wash over you and lift your hearts in praise. And don’t forget the s’mores!
I know not every family has access to a fire pit or a place to start a fire, so even if you sit together in your living room floor- it’s enough.
I hope these activities inspire your family to grow closer, create new traditions, and make memories that will last a lifetime. As you enjoy these moments together, remember that these simple joys of life are gifts from God.
