5 Verses to Pray Over Your Family This Year

Family is such a gift.

These five verses are perfect to ask God for guidance, protection, or hope for your loved ones as we enter a new year! You can pray these verses on your own as a personal way to lift up your family, or share them and pray together.

1. Joshua 24:15 (NLT)

“But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

Prayer:

God,

Help us to stay faithful to your commands and love one another, as You commanded. Let our home be a safe haven, and let us shine your light wherever we go.

2. Ephesians 2:10 NLT

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

Prayer:

Father,

Thank You for creating each of us with a purpose. Lead our family to walk in the good works You’ve prepared for us and give us the wisdom to reflect Your love in every step. Remind us daily of the beauty and value You see in us.

3. Isaiah 43:1-2 NLT

“But now, listen to the Lord who created you.
O Israel, the one who formed you says,
‘Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine.
When you go through deep waters,
I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.'”

Prayer: 

God,

When life gets tough, help us to remember that you will never forsake us. Surround our family with Your protection and peace, giving us the courage to face every trial knowing You are with us.

4. Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Prayer: 

Jesus,

In moments of anxiety or uncertainty, remind us to bring everything to You. Fill our hearts with Your peace that doesn’t make sense and help us trust You fully with our family’s journey, both in trials and in joy.

5. Romans 15:13 NLT

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Prayer:

God,

Fill our family with Your joy and peace as we trust in You. Let us overflow with hope, inspiring others to see Your goodness and love through us. Strengthen us to share Your light wherever You lead.
