30 Bible Verses for Anxiety, Worry, and Fear

If you struggle with anxiety, worry, or fear, these verses are for you.

God tells us to keep His word in our hearts. If one or a few of these verses speak to the hurt you’re feeling- write them on index cards, and leave them where you’ll see them each day. Make them part of your daily choice to focus on God more than what’s causing you to fear. You’re not alone.

1. Isaiah 41:10

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

2. Romans 8:6

“So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”

3. 1 John 4:18

“Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.”

4. Joel 2:21

“Don’t be afraid, O land.
Be glad now and rejoice,
for the Lord has done great things.”

5. Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

6. John 14:27

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

7. Romans 8:38

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.”

8. Ephesians 1:18

“I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.”

9. Proverbs 14.27

“Fear of the Lord is a life-giving fountain; it offers escape from the snares of death.”

10. Psalm 37:4

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.”

11. Psalm 23:1-4

“The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3 He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.
4 Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,[a]
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.”

12. John 15:4-5

“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.”
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”

13. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

“We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. 4 We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 5 We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.”

14. Psalm 27:1-4

“The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
so why should I tremble?
2 When evil people come to devour me,
when my enemies and foes attack me,
they will stumble and fall.
3 Though a mighty army surrounds me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
I will remain confident.
4 The one thing I ask of the Lord—
the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
delighting in the Lord’s perfections
and meditating in his Temple.”

15. 2 Timothy 1:7

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

16. Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

17. Philippians 4:6-7 

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

18. Matthew 7:7 

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you

19. Philippians 1:6 

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”

20. Psalms 34:18-19

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed. 19 The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.” 

21. Joshua 1:9 

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

22. 1 Peter 5:7

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

23. Nahum 1:7

“The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.”

24.  Matthew 6:34 

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

25. Hebrews 13:6 

“So we can say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear.'”

26. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.”

27.  Ecclesiastes 3:11

“Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.”

28. Philippians 4:13

“For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

29. Matthew 11:28

“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.'”

30. John 16:33 

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

Thank you Hope Nation. I used to be an atheist but I was saved. Despite being saved and becoming a Christian, when things in life become dire, my old thoughts come back, haunting me to doubt God and shake my beliefs. When we pray, the act of prayer/ emptying our mind and stress by saying things out loud acts as a self-soothing technique that we feel better; thus, convinced ourselves ” prayer works” and give credit to the imaginary God for positive coincidences?
