16 Songs to Help Combat Anxiety and Fear

We believe music can play a huge role in reminding us of truth and getting that message into our hearts on a daily basis. Here are 16 songs that we’ve seen make a huge impact on people struggling with fear, anxiety, and circumstances beyond their control. When you feel fear, look back on these verses, listen to these songs, and remember who is in control no matter what!

1. “Fear is a Liar” by Zach Williams

Fear he is a liar
He will take your breath
Stop you in your steps
Fear he is a liar
He will rob your rest
Steal your happiness
Cast your fear in the fire
‘Cause fear he is a liar
Let Your fire fall and cast out all my fears
Let Your fire fall Your love is all I feel

2. “Trust in You” by Lauren Daigle

This one will fill your heart with hope! It’s so relatable. Even when you don’t see the answer, God is trustworthy til the very end!

When You don’t move the mountains
I’m needing You to move
When You don’t part the waters
I wish I could walk through
When You don’t give the answers
As I cry out to You
I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in You

3. “I Have This Hope” by Tenth Avenue North

This is the song for when you feel broken and weary and don’t know where else to turn. Tenth Avenue North is so incredibly honest about feeling this way, but they also never back down from the truth that is always there to bring us immeasurable hope!

I have this hope
In the depth of my soul
In the flood or the fire
You’re with me and You won’t let go

4. “Fearless” by Jasmine Murray

The inspiration for this song came right after Jasmine had a panic attack and finally asked for help from her community.
But I wasn’t given the spirit of fear
I was given the power of love
Everything I’ve been fighting against
I’m gonna lift it up

5. “Eye of the Storm” by Ryan Stevenson

Who is in control? Even in the middle of chaos? This song reminds us so beautifully.

In the eye of the storm
You remain in control
And in the middle of the war
You guard my soul
You alone are the anchor
When my sails are torn
Your love surrounds me
In the eye of the storm

6. “Warrior” by Hannah Kerr

You’ll never stop me, I’m a warrior
When I fall down I get stronger
Faith is my shield, His love is the armor
I’m a warrior

7. “Bigger Than This” by Jo Dee Messina

Country artist, Jo Dee Messina, couldn’t get through her current battle with cancer as a single mom without full reliance in God. She says her peace and joy comes from finding God in the everyday moments and remembering He is bigger than any problems she may face! This is the song that came out of that experience.

8. “No Longer Slaves” by Bethel Music

This worship song will speak truth into your life, reminding you that fear has no power over you! Even when we feel fear, God is the one in control!

I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

9. “More Than Anything” by Natalie Grant

This song took on a whole new meaning for Natalie after battling thyroid cancer and facing the possibility of losing her voice. She had to face the fact that even more than the answer she wanted, even more than the fear, she had Jesus! And that would be enough because of who He is and what He’s done for us!

Help me want the Healer
More than the healing
Help me want the Savior
More than the saving
Help me want the Giver
More than the giving
Oh help me want You Jesus
More than anything

10. “Sparrows” by Jason Gray

Jason Gray has an amazing way with words. If you struggle with anxiety and worry, this song will really bless you.

You can’t add a single day by worrying
You’ll worry your life away
Oh don’t worry your life away
You can’t change a single thing by freaking out
It’s just gonna close you in
Oh don’t let the trouble win

11. “Breathe” by Jonny Diaz

Don’t ever underestimate the power of slowing down, taking a breathe, and intentionally resting in the truth the Jesus gives us. This song illustrates that perfectly.

Breathe, just breathe
Come and rest at my feet
And be, just be
Chaos calls but all you really need
Is to just breathe

12. “Voice of Truth” by Casting Crowns

When fear is talking to you and entering your thoughts, remember you have a choice! What voice will you listen to? The fear of the enemy or the truth of our Savior? God is with you always. Choose to listen to Him more than you listen to the fear.

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says, “Do not be afraid!”
The voice of truth says, “This is for My glory”
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

13. “Dare You to Move” by Switchfoot

When mistakes happen, what happens next? This “oldie but goodie” is the motivation you might be needing today. Jesus is always there to welcome us with open arms. No mistake is too big for Him to forgive and for you to move beyond.

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before

14. “Hope in Front of Me” by Danny Gokey

Fear has a way of closing us in and making us believe there is no hope. That is so untrue! What Jesus did for us on the cross, taking our sin and shame, rising again, defeating death and evil, and offering us the free gift of forgiveness and relationship with Him – that is always true and always there to bring joy and hope to our weary hearts.

There’s hope in front of me
There’s a light, I still see it
There’s a hand still holding me
Even when I don’t believe it
I might be down but I’m not dead
There’s better days still up ahead
Even after all I’ve seen
There’s hope in front of me

15. “Greater” by MercyMe

God is so much greater than any fear, problem, or lie that might be in our way. Focus on God’s greatness and watch your perspective change!

‘Cause I hear a voice and He calls me redeemed
When others say I’ll never be enough
And greater is the One living inside of me
Than he who is living in the world
In the world

16. “Through All of It” by Colton Dixon

No matter what is happening in your life, God is with you through every single bit of it. Turn to Him. Talk to Him about your fears, heartaches, and struggles. Focus on Him more than your problems and see what a difference it can make. This song can help with that!

I have won
and I have lost
I got it right sometimes
But sometimes I did not
Life’s been a journey
I’ve seen joy, I’ve seen regret
Oh and You have been my God
Through all of it

What If by Matthew West seems to be about anxiety too but apparently with Matthew West struggling with his own anxieties.
