Weddings always make me cry.
But you know what else gets me? A sappy love song. And worship music.
So, when you combine all three, you can imagine how many tissues I’ll need for any wedding I attend. There’s something so sacred and beautiful about weddings—the celebration of two people brought together by God. When I think about my own wedding and the perfect songs for the day, it feels IMPOSSIBLE to choose.
But before we dive into the list, let’s address the elephant in the room.
It can feel a little cringey to use worship songs at a wedding. After all, love songs meant for God’s glory are now being played during a ceremony that’s all about the union between a man and woman.
I get it. I’ve felt that tension before.
But if you’re like me, you know you’ll be praising God on your wedding day, and you’ll want worship music to be a part of the celebration. Personally, I want to have a moment of worship during my ceremony and some upbeat dancing worship jams for the reception. But the same songs I’d pick for the ceremony are definitely not the ones I’d choose for my first dance.
So, I’ve made it easier for you. I’ve categorized these songs for everything from first dances to perfect walk-out songs and even father-daughter dance options.
Here are some of my favorite songs to play on your big day. 💍💒
First Dance Songs
For me, the perfect first dance song isn’t necessarily a worship song but one that celebrates love while acknowledging that God is the one who brought us together. These are my top picks.
Dancing (feat. Joe L Barnes & Tiffany Hudson) | Elevation Worship
“Dancing on the mountain of a victory
If it’s you and me, I won’t stop dancing”
NOTHING NEW (I DO) Wedding Version ft. Brittany Lake | Brandon Lake
“From the depths of my soul, and with all of my strength
Here is my heart in just one phrase
‘I love you, I love you, I love you'”
I Will Be Here (Live from Sweetwater Studios Sessions) | Steven Curtis Chapman
“I will be true to the promise I have made
To you and to the One who gave you to me”
Ceremony & Processional Songs
This is where I think worship music really shines. These songs are all about looking back at what the Lord has done and celebrating His faithfulness. Trust me, you’ll want to use one (or all) of these. Also pro-tip: don’t be afraid to look up acoustic versions of any worship song you love—you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus | Steffany Gretzinger
“His faithful hand has held me all this way
And when I’m old and grey And all my days are numbered on the earth Let it be known in you alone My joy was found”
What He’s Done | Passion (ft. Kristian Stanfill, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Anna Golden)
“All the glory and the honor to the Son
My sins are forgiven
My future is Heaven
I praise God for what He’s done”
Goodness of God | Bethel Music & Jenn Johnson | Peace
“‘Cause all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good With every breath that I am able Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God”
Father-Daughter Dance Songs
I can already see the tears welling up in my dad’s eyes. These songs are perfect for celebrating what the Lord has done and recognizing the special bond between you and your father as he’s looked after you until this momentous day.
Fall On Me (feat. Carly Pearce)| NEEDTOBREATHE
“You will always be
You will always be The one that I can call The safest place to fall”
What God Is Gonna Do | The Afters
“I’m just proud of who you are
To watch you grow and see your heart And when I think of all that lies ahead for you I can’t wait to see what God is gonna do”
A Father’s Blessing | Benjamin William Hastings
“So, may the Lord be kind to keep you
And may the devil fear your reach May all those roads you roam wind home to me”
Walking Out/Recessional Songs
For me, the recessional song is all about celebration. After saying “I do,” it’s time to party! These songs will get everyone smiling and dancing as you exit the ceremony or reception. I’ve left one that’s a bit more low-key for those who prefer a gentler exit.
I Propose A Toast | Jon Foreman
“Here’s to love and here’s to life
Here’s to fighting side by side Here’s to us together You and I”
Praise (feat. Brandon Lake, Chris Brown & Chandler Moore) | Elevation Worship
“As long as I’m breathing
I’ve got a reason to Praise the Lord Oh, my soul”
Never Get Used To This | JVKE, Forrest Frank
“When I look back
On my whole life There’s a silver lining of grace I can’t wait to thank You, Jesus”
