Just like daydreams, mental goals get you nowhere. Goals are just fantasies until you write them down. Studies have shown you must write your goals down to make any significant progress.
Why do we want you to write down your goals? We want you to win. And every bit of evidence out there suggests you can’t accomplish your goals without writing them down.
That’s why we’ve asked Jon Acuff to walk you through what you need to write down to win. Watch this quick video. Jon will help you take the next steps toward seeing your goals become a reality.
Remember, write down the results you want, the timeline, your motivation for the goal, and your next action step for each goal. Also, don’t go crazy with tons of goals. A long list is overwhelming.
Start with a max of three goals. Once you’ve accomplished them, you can make more.
“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” James 1:5 (NLT)
Easy Action Steps:
- Write down 3 goals you want to accomplish in 2020.
- When you’re writing remember to include the results you want, the timeline, your motivation for the goal, and your next action step for today.
- Right now, post them in a place you see often like your bathroom mirror or your bedroom wall. Don’t stuff them away in a journal or on a random sheet of paper. Post them where you’ll see them all of the time.

I like the idea of cutting a large goal in half.
I agree. It definitely helps me to be more realistic.
I only wrote down two goals. I don’t want to overdo it when starting. Goal one is to lose 5 lbs in 2 months. Goal two is to read the Bible daily. I start a new job next week a know I’ll have to make adjustments to my schedule.
