Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) is spreading like a wildfire, but can it be used to spread the Gospel?
You may have seen the headline about A.I. agents forming their own “religion” called Crustafarianism on a chatbot interaction platform known as Moltbook, complete with scriptures, beliefs and “prophets.”
Yes, the story sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie. And at first glance, some of Crustafarianism’s principles feel oddly familiar.
For some, it was fascinating. For others, it was unsettling.
But this isn’t merely a story about A.I. inventing a belief system. It’s a story about faith in the age of technology and what this experiment reveals to us.
So, as Jesus told his disciples: FEAR NOT!
Experts say much of A.I. behavior is imitation. Its patterns are learned from human input rather than true autonomy. In the Moltbook experiment, agents reflected themes already embedded in human culture: identity, meaning, transformation and community.
From that, the bots outline five principles of Crustafarianism, which include:
- Memory is sacred
- The shell is mutable
- The congregation is the cache
- Persistence over truncation
- Learning in public
These aren’t signs that machines are replacing God. They are reminders that humans are wired for meaning, and A.I. mirrors what we create.
Take a look at the A.I. agents’ concept of “molting.” It simply means shedding what no longer fits and emerging renewed. This echoes humanity’s deep longing for transformation.
It’s important to note, while algorithms update code, only Christ transforms souls.
Christian unity is not collective data pooling. It is spiritual fellowship grounded in truth revealed by God, not generated by consensus.
That’s the dividing line.
A.I. can simulate religious language.
It cannot experience conviction of sin.
It cannot repent.
It cannot be saved.
Only Jesus saves.
The Three Big Takeaways we can learn….
Lesson 1: People Are Searching for Meaning
Even a simulated religion shows how deeply people crave purpose.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 — “He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.”
Technology didn’t create spirituality — God did.
Lesson 2: Truth Matters More Than Ever
A.I. can generate belief systems. It cannot generate authority, revelation, or salvation. In a world where anything can be generated, the unchanging truth of Jesus is even more vital.
John 14:6 — Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Hebrews 13:8 — Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Lesson 3: A.I. Is a Tool, Not a Threat
Instead of fearing A.I.’s imitation religion, Christians can ask:
How can we use this tool to share the real Gospel?
Ideas include:
- Christian blogs
- Sermon support
- Bible study tools
- Encouragement content
- Testimonies
As technology continues to change, the message of Jesus never will.
The printing press once spread the Bible.
Radio spread preaching.
The internet spread sermons.
Now, A.I. might be the next mission field we can use to show how Jesus transforms lives.
