Anyone else found themselves in tears watching an episode of ‘The Chosen‘… 🙋
Season 5, appropriately titled The Last Supper, is available now on Prime Video (with a bonus free window on The Chosen app coming this fall). It covers Holy Week: Palm Sunday, the Temple cleansing, Judas’s betrayal, and the Last Supper itself. The full season will be available to stream by September.
Already, cast members have called Season 5 their most “intense and emotional” yet, George Xanthis (John) noting it was “tumultuous and fiery”- whatever that means, sounds intense.

For the next season (season 6), the production moved all the way from Texas to Matera, Italy, for a stand-in for ancient Jerusalem.
Director Dallas Jenkins explained they’re capturing the crucifixion on a real horizon, in weather and terrain that feel ancient, and that continually moved the cast and crew to tears. Jenkins has promised a faithful yet accessible tone, avoiding the intensity of The Passion of the Christ but still capturing the emotional weight of the darkest day in history.
Jonathan Roumie (Jesus) described the experience as “heavy, humbling, holy,” and said it has been his most physically and emotionally demanding season yet.
Cast & Crew Were Brought to Tears
This video captures crew members staining sets with symbolic blood and filming actors visibly moved to tears as they witnessed the disciples’ heartbreak during the Crucifixion.
Actors like Elizabeth Tabish shared how she was overcome with grief playing Mary Magdalene, so overcome that she had to take breaks between scenes just to process the weight of the moment.
Why Season 6 Is Big For Christian Film
This could be the biggest televised depiction of the crucifixion since The Passion of the Christ.
This show is the first family-friendly crucifixion, which is an ironic thing to say. Cast vulnerability is real: from tears on camera to a deep awareness that they are portraying real people from Bible stories that have shaped faith for generations. Plus, the backstory of how this show began with one crowdfunded pilot and now serves millions worldwide.
What Comes Next
Season 6 is scheduled for a theatrical finale in March 2027, with streaming to follow on Prime Video. It will serve as the second-to-last season, because we know the Crucifixion is not the end of the story.
This isn’t just another production; it’s a reminder of what Jesus endured, revealed through cameras and tears. Let’s pray for the cast and crew as they continue pouring emotion into the best story ever told.
