Spring Forward: Reset Your Clock, Refresh Your Life

If you’re still feeling a bit groggy after losing an hour of sleep this weekend, you’re not alone.

For many people, the “Spring Forward” time change feels like an unwelcome tradition that steals an hour of much-needed rest. But believe it or not, it’s actually one of my favorite days of the year.

Now at the risk of sounding completely crazy, hear me out…

I love my sleep. Given the chance, I could easily sleep in every single morning. But I also love sunshine—and during the winter months, I hardly get to enjoy it.

My morning commute to work usually happens before the sun has fully risen, and by the time I head home, it’s already starting to set. Some days it feels like the entire day slips by without me getting to soak up even a few minutes of sunlight.

That’s why “Spring Forward” always feels like such a gift to me. Suddenly, the evenings stretch a little longer. There’s a little more light, a little more warmth, and it feels like there’s more time to enjoy the day.

Of course, sunshine does more than just give us vitamin D. A little extra daylight can lift your mood, boost your energy, and help you feel more present in the moment. It’s amazing how something as simple as an extra hour of daylight can make life feel less rushed and more full.

So how can we make the most of this extra bit of sunshine?

Here are a few simple ways to make the most of the spring evenings ahead.

Go for an Evening Walk

There’s something special about stepping outside for a walk as the sun begins to set. The air starts to cool, the sky fills with warm colors, and the pace of the day finally slows down.

It’s the perfect time to clear your mind, stretch your legs after a long day, and spend a few quiet moments talking with God. Sometimes the best prayers happen during simple moments like these—walking, breathing deeply, and noticing the beauty of creation around you.

Have an Outdoor Bible Study

Imagine sitting around a fire pit or patio table, a gentle breeze in the air, and the sounds of nature in the background as you open your Bible together.

There’s something about being outdoors that helps you slow down and appreciate the world God created while studying His Word. Conversations seem a little deeper, laughter lasts a little longer, and faith feels a little more tangible when you’re surrounded by His handiwork.

Porch Quiet Time with God

One of the simplest ways to enjoy the extra daylight is by spending a few quiet moments on the porch with God. Bring your Bible, a devotional, or a journal and sit outside as the evening settles in.

The gentle sounds of birds, rustling leaves, and distant neighborhood activity create a peaceful atmosphere that’s perfect for reflection. It’s amazing how stepping outside can help quiet your thoughts and make space to hear from God in a deeper way.

Enjoy Family Dinners Outside

Longer evenings are also the perfect excuse to take dinner outside. Whether it’s grilling in the backyard, eating on the patio, or even having a simple picnic-style meal, dining outdoors instantly makes the moment feel special.

Without the distractions of television or busy schedules, conversations tend to last longer and laughter comes more easily. It’s a great way to slow down, reconnect as a family, and enjoy the simple blessing of being together.

If nothing else, “Spring Forward” is a reminder that brighter days are ahead—literally and figuratively. And that extra hour of sunlight might just be the perfect opportunity to step outside, breathe in the fresh air, and enjoy the season God is bringing to life all around us.
