Saved and Skateboarding: Bringing Church to the Skatepark
Posted 1 month ago - Sep 2, 2026
From: Sarah NordbyWhen you picture a revival among young people, where do you picture it happening?
Church youth group? An after-school organization?
If I said “skatepark” you’d probably read that over a couple times, not certain that you’re reading it correctly. But trust me, you are.
Data shows that 40% of young skateboarders are now attending religious services regularly, and they’re taking their faith to the skatepark. Daring to go against the grain of traditional faith gatherings, skateboarders are breaking barriers to bring the Word to their own skate communities.
From local Skate Church outreach events across the country, to online Bible studies geared towards professional and amateur skateboarders, it’s clear that a movement is happening in the skateboarding community!
If the skatepark seems like an unconventional place to have church, Matthew 18:20 provides an important reminder:
“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
It’s not about where we seek God, it’s about joining together and coming to God with pure hearts - seeking Him no matter what our surroundings look like.
This movement is even impacting skateboarders of celebrity status with Jason Lee, actor and professional skateboarder, who is bringing honesty about his sobriety, faith, and mental health.
So next time you see a group of skateboarders gathering around the skatepark, there’s a chance that they are discussing more than the trick they just landed - they could be having a church service.
