One of the biggest complaints I’ve heard about CCM (Christian Contemporary Music), is that every song feels or sounds the same.

Well, the good news is that worship music has and still is expanding. There are TONS of songs under this umbrella term that explore different genres and sounds. I find that even people who don’t consider themselves believers will listen to certain songs because it fits their “music taste.”

So I’ve compiled a short list of some Christian songs/bands that I matched up with popular mainstream artists. Feel free to share with your friends and comment down below your favorite Christian song!

1. If they like Post Malone, play No Longer Bound by Forrest Frank

For your friends who like something a bit more upbeat, this rap song about freedom by Forrest Frank is sure to hype up any occasion. Christian rap artists Hulvey and Forrest Frank also collabed to give us hip-hop hit – “Altar.”

There are several other sensational Christian rap artists including Lecrae, NF, and others that you can listen to live on one of our streams NGEN Radio! You can also listen to the rap legend TobyMac on WayFM!

Update, Forrest did a version of this song with Maverick City and it slaps.

2. If they like Justin Bieber, play Known by Tauren Wells

Tauren Wells brings us lyrics about being fully known and loved by God, that your R&B fans are sure to love. Lauren Daigle  has a very chill version of Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus that would also fit this category.

Sxxnt is a newer artist who makes R&B covers of top worship songs like “Another In the Fire” by Hillsong and “Nothing Else” by Cody Carnes. Jon Reddick has more of a worship sound but he has some amazing R&B covers in his Songs From a Mug. Some lesser-known Christian R&B artists that are worth a listen include IMRSQD, Madison Ryann Ward, and so many more!

3. If they like Kacey Musgraves, play Any More by CAIN

CAIN is one of the many bands that do a fabulous job of combining country and worship! This is a more recent song of theirs, but they have several others including “I’m So Blessed” & “Rise Up (Lazarus).”

Also definitely give We The Kingdom a listen. Luckily, we already have the only country Christian playlist you need with Zach Williams, Rhett Walker, Anne Wilson, and more!

4. If they like The Lumineers play What I’m Here For by NEEDTOBREATHE

If your friends are into folk music, NEEDTOBREATHE is sure to win them over. With hits like “Testify” and “Who Am I.” An underground and astounding folk Christian artist is Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors. Their newest single, “Without a Light,” is sure to be in tune with what is known as folk balladry.

5. If they like Metallica, play Whispers In the Dark by Skillet

I love to see the faces of metalheads when they make the connection that Skillet is indeed a Christian band.  This is one of my personal favs from Skillet but they have several bangers (or should I say head-bangers) like “Monster”, “Hero”, & “Feel Invincible.” Their drummer, Jen Ledger, released her own music on her 2018 album LEDGER.

You can listen live to Skillet, Demonhunter, Red, and several other Christian metal bands on another one of our streams– WAY LOUD.

“Speak to each other with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord.” | Ephesians 5:19 (NLT)

Let’s continue to share the gospel and spread hope through many more songs like these!
