How to Pray for TobyMac & His Family in Their Heartbreaking Loss

From: Dave KennedyToday, we grieve with TobyMac and his family in the loss of their dear son and brother, Truett. Truly, God has invited us to have the privilege to “weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15). We are humbled that we can pray for this dear family in their brokenness and sorrow.
There is so much in this life we can’t possibly understand, and we wonder if we can even endure through it. How can we pray for this family today and in the weeks ahead? In times like this when we don’t know what to say, we rely on God’s holy Word in their time of deep need.
Ask God to carry their burden as He has promised.
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NLT
Trust God to bring them comfort as only He can.
God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4 NLT
Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. Psalm 23:4 NLT
Pray that God will send friends who will lift them up.
Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2 NLT
Ask God to remind you often to “pray earnestly” for this family.
But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him. Acts 12:5 NLT
May the McKeehan family feel the Lord’s strong grace in their time of weakness.
Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 NLT
Pray that they know our Lord will not fail them in their suffering.
So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you. 1 Peter 4:19 NLT
Jesus grieved over the death of His good friend, Lazarus in John 11. Our compassionate Lord is with this family right now as they “walk through the darkest valley” (Psalm 23:4). Each tear is important to Him… “You keep track of all my sorrow. You have collected all my tears in Your bottle. You have recorded each one in Your book” (Psalm 56:8).
The New Testament book of Revelation says that the prayers of God’s people are a fragrant incense held in gold bowls before the Throne of God. Thank you for praying with us for this wonderful family.
“Look to the Lord and his strength; seek His face always” Psalm 105:4
