How to Pray for the World Today

If the world is feeling a little extra heavy to you today, in the midst of everything going on, then you’re not alone. We may not be able to control what’s happening, but there is something we can do…pray.

Here’s how we can pray for the world today:

For Our Military

For those who are already on the frontlines and those who are anxiously waiting to hear if they will be called upon, let’s pray for peace, safety, and guidance.

“Heavenly Father, we thank you for the brave men and women who have answered the call to protect our country and freedom. We ask that you give them peace during these uncertain times, because nothing is a surprise to You and we know that You have a hope and a future for us. Keep them safe as they are on the frontlines and remind them that, no matter where they are, they are never alone. Guide them in every decision they make because we trust in You, Father, as You direct our steps. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”

For Our Government

We are instructed to pray for our leadership so that we live a life of peace and reverence. Our government needs God’s guidance now, more than ever, and we get the privilege to pray for them and make a difference in our country through God’s Word.

“Heavenly Father, we pray over our government and the decisions that they must make every single day. We ask that You be in every room, guiding the conversations so that leadership moves with wisdom and a heart for You and Your people. While we may never know everything going on behind the scenes, we know that You are in control and we pray for peace in our government as they work together to carry forth Your will for our country and the world at large. Thank you for orchestrating all things to work together for good to those who love You and are called according to Your purpose. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”

For Our Country

With so much uncertainty, it can be natural to feel nervous or unsure. The good news? It’s not all on us to figure everything out! God is in control. He never expects us to have all the answers and He wants us to come to Him with what’s on our hearts and minds.

“Heavenly Father, the weight of current events feels heavy, but we know that it’s not on our shoulders. You hold us in Your hands and tell us that You will help us. We are not alone, for You strengthen us as we face uncertainty. Thank You for never leaving or changing, reminding us that You are in control and stay the same today, tomorrow, and forever. It’s with your love and grace that we can move forward with peace and confidence every day of our lives. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”

For Iran

It’s easy to look at current events and see confusion, fear, anger, and people picking “sides.” What we sometimes forget is that in the center of it all there is humanity. We are all children of God, and Iranian citizens are likely feeling the same emotions that we are.

“Heavenly Father, we know that Your love for us is so deep that we can be called Your children. Through Jesus, all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues can gather in Your presence. We pray that You would give the people of Iran peace to know that everything is in Your hands. You hear their hearts, You see their needs, and You meet them right where they are. Thank You for Your provision and Your heart for unity among Your people. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
