Katy Nichole sat down with Joy to talk about how God is using her song “In Jesus Name” (God of Possible) that has taken the world by storm.
What started out as a random TikTok on Instagram has become an anthem of healing that’s touched the lives of millions.
God doesn’t need us to understand every little thing or else. You know, I mean, he’s an all knowing God. He knows. So you don’t have to. Healing.
Joy: This song has like a life of its own. Can you tell me about what it was like to write it and if you had any idea that it was going to, like, go viral like this?
Katy: I mean, no idea. I did not think in my wildest dreams, you know, I do this thing called TikTok. It’s that fun app for, you know, the young generation, the young people. And I mean that because I was a small group leader for seventh graders.
They said, Katy, get this app. It’s amazing. And I was like, Absolutely not.
Joy: You said, no.
Katy: I said, no. This was in 2019. And then 2020, I was like, It’s quarantine.
I’m stuck in my house. What am I going to do? I was like, I’m bored and I need something to do.
And actually I started making stupid videos. Of course, because you did, as one does, and those videos did not do anything. So I was like, You know what? Maybe I’ll put some music on here. And those videos still didn’t do anything, so I just kept doing it.
Joy: So you’ve been singing since you were a kid and you thought, Let me just take this to the Internet and just share my gift.
Katy: So I downloaded this app, and I started posting music videos, and it was really like a consistency thing.
I started to gain followers… and it was fun for me and I was just making content. So it wasn’t really “I want to go viral”
or anything like that.
I had written the song in Jesus Name, God if possible, and it was actually a song that was being written over time and I didn’t even know.
I wrote the song in August of 2021, and the writers that I was with, were writing these lyrics. I was like, “You know what? I connect to that. I feel like that’s my story, and I hope that someone else feels like they can hear their story through this.”
Joy: So when did it first get shared and what was that next day like? Because I feel like it just blew up.
Katy: Well, I recorded like a little clip of it right after I wrote it. So a week later I posted it to TikTok.
…The crazy thing was that I’m recording a couple videos as content for the week and specifically “In Jesus Name” right before I posted it, I prayed over the video. I just said, God, do with this what you’re going to do. I know that this feels like my story, but if it’s only one person who feels like it’s their story, that’s the only person I was supposed to reach.”
And the funny thing is, I left it for like 4 hours and I came back to a million views. I mean, that’s that’s insane. Insane and completely not what my intentions were.
Joy: What was it like for you when people started using the audio in their own videos?
Katy: Well, the thing that I didn’t even know the extent of how many people were using it. I was seeing videos come through like daily, but I didn’t really know how many people were seeing this.
Joy: We’re hearing this song. And also just like that, it was this little tiny clip. It was unbelievable in the ways that they were using it were so incredible. Is there one you can think of that sticks with you?
Katy: Yes. There was a little girl who had cancer and her mom was recording her journey and eventually they were using the song in multiple videos. She was cancer free. And you got to watch her.
These are things the Internet was made to do. And you get to be a part of it.
Joy: Amazing. So I want to know about your story, because this song is specifically about I pray that God would change your circumstances and you’ve had a scoliosis journey, which is why I wanted to talk to you, because my brother has had such a similar journey that he was diagnosed when he was younger, had rods put in his spine, had them removed two years ago, which is like it’s excruciating what you have been through.
And so I just want to know what your journey of healing has looked like.
And as we talked right before this interview, you still deal with some pain. So how do you deal with that and your relationship with God and what does it look like?
Katy: Yeah, I mean, it’s really having a bold face every single day and taking just one step, because here’s the thing. Forward is only one step and God can do the rest. And so if I wake up every day with the intent to glorify God and everything that I do and obey God in everything that I do.
I can do that through the pain. I can praise him through the pain. And the thing is, is that it doesn’t mean that it’s gone away completely because it hasn’t. I am on a healing journey. Healing is lifelong. Yeah, up until eternity.
That’s when ultimate healing will happen. So you’re going to face things in your daily life. Circumstances may not change, but that doesn’t mean that God is not still who He says He is. It means that He’s right there in the middle of it with you.
And the thing is, is that praying for healing is praying that God would be present. It’s praying that God would be over your life throughout the entire thing. Miracles are not always huge miracles where, you know, my spine came back straighter after I had the rods removed.
And that’s unbelievable. That’s a miracle. That’s a huge miracle. But that’s the only giant miracle I’ve ever seen in my life. Other miracles have come when I just was looking and I was seeing what God was doing.
God is always moving. God is always in it with us. Don’t miss those moments. That’s all I can say is don’t miss those moments.
Joy: Powerful. I think people some people have heard the short version of your story, which is that you were healed.
And I expected to sit down with you today and be like you never had another problem with your spine in your life. And to ask you what you would say to someone who that’s not their story, because that’s my brother.
He struggles every single day with pain. And to know that you still have a strong faith in God and you go, I have seen a miracle, and yet I still live with pain every day. I think that’s so powerful for a community of people who deal with chronic pain.
What would you say to someone like my brother who does wake up every day in pain. What do you pray or where do you go in your mind?
Katy: I very recently have had that, where I’ve just been like, “God, I don’t understand. Like why right now?” When everything seemed to be going in a good direction, I felt good. I felt like I was living my best life.
I just don’t understand it. But I think that’s the point. God doesn’t need us to understand every little thing or else, you know. He’s an all knowing God. He knows. So you don’t have to.
The thing is, is that when I get into that place, I really just do find myself praising God for everything that’s going right.
Because the thing is, is that. Everything is not going to go right every single day. I’m going to wake up with something new every single day. And that’s okay, because God is still good.
God is still good. And if he says he’s who he is, then healing will come day by day. So healing may not happen in the moment that you need it to happen. Healing may not happen in the timing that you want it to happen or how you want it to happen.
But I can encourage you to just keep moving. Yeah, because that’s what I’ve been doing every single day is I just take the next step. If you lived your days, as in the present, God can work through that.

Witnessed Katy Nichole perform In Jesus Name, at Cece Winans’ Generations Live conference a few weeks ago in TN. Truly life changing! I wished I recorded the entire song! Was able to record a minute where the song speaks about revival. The audience was so moved, including myself. Life changing!!
What is the story of these people in Katy Nichole’s video? Why were they fighting over a hospital report and why was the little girl in the report?
