How Faith and Therapy Work Together | Tasha Layton

Let’s be honest—life gets loud. Between anxious thoughts, never-ending to-do list, comparison, and past hurts that don’t magically go away, it’s easy to feel stuck. Stuck in shame. Stuck in worry. Stuck believing lies that just aren’t true.

The enemy wants to steal, kill, and destroy. This meaning, he will do anything in his power to keep you away from what the Lord has for you. Therapy and faith aren’t enemies—they’re allies. Together, they can help you fight the lies of the enemy and walk in the freedom Jesus already paid for.

Faith Isn’t a Substitute for Therapy

…and therapy isn’t a substitute for faith.

There’s real value in sitting down with a counselor who can give you practical tools to deal with anxiety, depression, or trauma. But that doesn’t mean you’re leaving your faith at the door. When Jesus said, “The truth will set you free,” He wasn’t only talking about knowing Bible verses (although that’s part of it). He was talking about stepping into truth in every area of your life—including your mental health.

You can absolutely love Jesus and go to therapy.

The Enemy Loves Lies. Jesus Speaks Truth.

Maybe you’ve believed some lies for a long time:

  • “I’m too broken.”

  • “No one would understand.”

  • “God must be disappointed in me.”

The enemy is sneaky like that. Recognize those lies for what they are and replace them with truth. You are loved, known, and redeemed. Not someday. Not once you get your act together. Right now. That’s who Jesus says you are.

And that kind of freedom is powerful.

Real Tools + Real Hope = Real Change

What we love about this interview with Tasha Layton is how it shows the power of both/and. You don’t have to choose between spiritual growth and emotional healing. You can pursue both at the same time. Things like journaling and breathing exercises can work alongside prayer, Scripture, and the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

Healing might take time. It might involve tears. But you don’t have to do it alone.

“It’s that balance between ‘pray it away’ and take a pill for everything. We use psychology to get to the root of things but then we let the Holy Spirit do the healing.” | Tasha Layton

Jesus cares about your mind, your emotions, and your everyday life. He’s not put off by your questions or overwhelmed by your anxiety. He meets you right in the middle of it.

You don’t have to pretend to be okay. You can bring your whole self to Him—and to a community who can help walk you through it. Freedom is real.

“Living from a place of rest is achievable. Rest requires trust. You have to trust that God is working while you’re waiting, while you’re resting.” | Tasha Layton
