Glimpses of God in Super Bowl 60

No matter your feelings toward the overall Super Bowl 60 experience, an event like this reminds us, God remains present in every moment before the first whistle.

Even in something as massive and worldly as the Super Bowl, there seem to be reminders of God’s truth woven throughout Sunday night.

From The Start…

The opening moments remind us that every gathering, no matter how large or commercial, still begins under God’s sovereignty. Long before kickoff, before outcomes or opinions, God already knows the end from the beginning.

The LORD has established His throne in heaven, And His kingdom rules over all. – Psalm 103:19

Throughout The Game…

The game reminds us that effort matters, but character matters more. The world is watching whether it’s through cameras or the way we interact with one another and how we respond, especially in moments of challenge, speak volumes.

1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us,
…whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

While competition can bring intensity, disagreement, and emotion, we must persevere, show humility in loss, and grace in victory. Our actions, even in sports, are a testimony to something greater: God’s presence in all things.

At Halftime…

In the middle of the noise, spectacle, and divided opinions, a simple message stood out:

“The only thing more powerful than hate is love.”

That truth aligns perfectly with Scripture. 1 Corinthians 13 reminds us that love conquers all.

1 Peter 4:8 also says, “Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.”

Halftime becomes a pause not just in the game, but a reminder that love still speaks louder than hate, even when the world feels divided.

Others turned to alternative halftime programming, they say aligned more closely with their personal beliefs and values.

In the midst of the televised halftime performance, which spoke of love and unification, there was another performance that rang out a message of salvation.

Turning Point USA held an alternative halftime show with performances that pointed towards a love for the nation, but it was Robert Ritchie (Kid Rock) who shared a message of urgency to follow Jesus.

Singing the song “‘Til You Can’t,” originally performed by Cody Johnson, Ritchie added a new verse to the song, saying that “something or someone spoke to [him]” on a Sunday morning and urged him to add the following verse:

“There’s a book that’s sitting in your house somewhere that could use some dusting off. There’s a man that died for all our sins hanging from the cross. You can give your life to Jesus, and he’ll give you a second chance. ‘Til you can’t.”

The added lyrics are a reminder that Jesus is always ready and waiting to have relationship with His people, but it’s up to us to make that move, pursue Him, and follow Him until our final breath.

Romans 10:9 tells us, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

That salvation is only available to us because of the love that God has for His children.

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends,” as explained in John 15:13.

While this performance was an accessible alternative, it’s evident that both halftime shows shared similar messages of the most important commandment of all: LOVE.

“And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” – Mark 12:30-31

In The Victory…

When the final whistle blows, what lingers most isn’t just the trophy but the story being told.

During the post-game celebration and interview, Seahawks Coach Mike McDonald spoke openly about relying on God’s guidance throughout his journey—especially when choosing to remain in coaching rather than pursuing a more comfortable or predictable path.

He chose obedience over comfort and showed us how trusting God’s plan instead of what he deemed safe always ends with success.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5–6

“A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” – Proverbs 16:9

Moments like these don’t make faith perfect or immune from misuse. It’s a reminder to us what humility and trust can look like when lived out sincerely.

 The Greater Message

Faith gives us foundation.
Hope anchors us for the future.
But love is what lasts.

“And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” – 1 Corinthians 13:13

No matter how politicized, polarized, or debated the event may be, God’s message remains unchanged: Love still wins.
