“I want the world to know, the Lord of love has come to me… I want to pass it on.”

Hearts are heavy this week as floods devastated Central Texas and the Hill Country. Families are grieving. Children are missing. Neighborhoods have been wiped away.

One of the places hit was Camp Mystic, a beloved Christian girls’ camp that’s been around since the 1920s. In the wake of the destruction, a video went viral that will completely wreck you.

A nurse recorded a group of young girls on a bus: exhausted, traumatized from seeing their camp torn apart and friends go missing. And what did they do? They sang.

They lifted their voices to praise God in the middle of the storm, singing a hymn from the 1960s called Pass It On. There’s something so powerful about hearing their small voices shout “PRAISE GOD!” while out the window you can see miles of destruction and debris.

How powerful is it that we can give praise to God in the middle of tragedy? How that verse remains true in Romans 12:15, that we can mourn with those who are mourning and rejoice with those who are rejoicing.

In an interview with the TODAY Show, a mom named Wynne Kennedy shared her daughter’s story of survival. Her daughter and fellow campers escaped to higher ground and were later airlifted to safety by helicopter. When they landed, little Lucy was carried to her mom barefoot—because she had given her Crocs to another camper who needed them more.

And days later? These same girls are still checking in on each other daily. Still clinging to connection. Still passing on the love of God.

This blog isn’t a call to “look on the bright side.” Tragedy hurts. Grief is real. These girls, their families, and so many others are walking through deep trauma right now.

But even so… God is still good.

He’s worthy of praise, even when it doesn’t make sense. We can hold our hurt and cry out to Him. We can hold these two emotions at the same time. He is near. He is not afraid of your questions, your grief, your pain. He will work it all for our good.

Lyrics:

It only takes a spark to get a fire going,
And soon all those around can warm up in its glowing;
That’s how it is with God’s Love,
Once you’ve experienced it,
Your spread the love to everyone
You want to pass it on.

What a wondrous time is spring,
When all the tress are budding
The birds begin to sing, the flowers start their blooming;
That’s how it is with God’s love,
Once you’ve experienced it.
You want to sing, it’s fresh like spring,
You want to pass it on.

I wish for you my friend
This happiness that I’ve found;
You can depend on God
It matters not where you’re bound,
I’ll shout it from the mountain top – PRAISE GOD!
I want the world to know
The Lord of love has come to me
I want to pass it on.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” | Matthew 5:14-16

What has the Lord done for you, and how can you pass it on? Let’s continue to join in prayer for the families and communities that have been affected by this natural disaster. And if you’re looking for other ways to help, here’s a place to start ⬇️
