Blessing Offor releasing a Taylor Swift cover was not on my bingo card for 2024.
Blessing has been nothing but busy in the music world. I got a chance to chat with Blessing Offor at one of his recent shows. When I caught up with him at a recent show, he shared one of his ultimate career goals: writing a Christmas song that becomes a classic. His latest track, “Snowglobe,” might just be his ticket there—it’s seriously catchy.
But while Christmas tunes are on his radar, Blessing’s also been working on something entirely different: a covers album featuring songs that shaped him as an artist. When I asked why he picked these particular tracks, he shared a quote often (though questionably) attributed to C.S. Lewis:
“The Christian shoemaker does his duty not by putting little crosses on the shoes, but by making good shoes, because God is interested in good craftsmanship.”
He went on to tell me that anything excellent is from God. Music has the power to transport us to specific memories and emotions, and he believes that all beauty and creativity, even in “secular” music, are gifts from God.
“All of these songs have inspired me in some way; both the artists that performed them and the songwriting itself” | Blessing Offor
Even though these artists don’t promote God in their music, you can still find Jesus in unexpected places. Not by praising what the world does, but by finding joy in good music-which is a gift from God!
You’ve never heard Taylor Swift like this before.
And Natalie Grant is not the only one who is a fan of the timeless song by Bob Dylan, “Make You Feel My Love.”
Some might wonder if it’s a gray area for Christian artists to cover secular songs. But Blessing sees it differently. He finds Jesus in unexpected places—not just in overtly spiritual moments but in the joy, and beauty of excellent music. After all, God isn’t confined to what we easily recognize—He’s just as present in the unseen.
