Anne Wilson Heard God Ask Her One Question After Her Brother Died

You can trust me.

Ever heard that before? In a movie, or in every day life. We make a choice to trust in something everyday. Trust a chair to hold you up when you sit in it. Trust a person to drive you safely in a car. Trust that the Lord is working all things for your good.

That last one is a bit easier said than done. I don’t know about you, but trusting the Lord’s plan hasn’t always a bowl of cherries lately. Hurt happens. Tears happen. The world’s never-ending chaos happens.

That’s the beautiful thing about faith. It isn’t perfect. But it’s always growing. We are always learning new ways to trust Him everyday.

And that’s part of Anne Wilson’s story. The first time she ever sang in front of a crowd was at her brother’s funeral. The night she lost him, she heard the Lord say

“Anne, are you going to trust me or not?”

And the rest is history. Sometimes the unthinkable happens, and it may not make sense in this lifetime- yet we can still find the good. That can only be God.

Here are three small ways I’m still learning to trust the Lord.

1. Just Keep Going

Not in a cheesy “just keep swimming” way (although thank you, Finding Nemo).

But in a quiet, faithful way. Sometimes God isn’t asking for a five-year plan. He’s asking for today’s yes.

Obedience looks like taking one more step down the hallway and letting Him decide which doors open and which ones close.

Faith isn’t a leap down the whole staircase. It’s one step at a time. Anything more than that, and we risk falling.

2. It Takes a Tribe

There’s a reason Jesus Christ had disciples. We were never meant to live this life alone.

When trust feels fragile, borrow faith from someone else for a while. Tell your trusted circle what you’re struggling with. Let them pray when you don’t have words.

There is power in testimony. There is strength in community. And sometimes God’s voice sounds a lot like the friend who refuses to let you give up.

3. Look for the Small Proof

When you feel like God has gone quiet, it doesn’t always mean He’s gone.

Maybe He’s in the stranger who smiles at you in the grocery store.
Maybe He’s in the sunset you almost missed.
Maybe He’s in the song that hits different on the drive home.

We want burning bushes. And yet, He often speaks in that still small voice. Trust grows when we train our eyes to see Him in the small things.

Anne Wilson’s story isn’t about having perfect faith. It’s about choosing trust in the middle of heartbreak.

And maybe that’s the real question for all of us:

When life doesn’t make sense…
When prayers feel unanswered…
When grief rewrites your plans…

Are you going to trust Him or not?
