I’m proud of you.
Such a simple statement, yet those 4 words hold so much power. We have an innate human desire to be loved, admired, and for the ones we love to take pride in us.
My mom always told me: “You can do anything you set your mind to.” A lot of loving parents like to use that phrase. Knowing my parents are proud of me goes beyond just words; it usually comes out when they are blabbing to strangers or whoever will listen to the accomplishments of my sister and me.
One day, my dad said to me, “I’m proudest of you when you worship the Lord with me.” And that stuck with me. I could make all the money in the world, earn the honor roll, or land the dream job, but my father is most proud of me when I am worshipping. And my Father in heaven rejoices in that.
If you are a parent longing for your kids to follow the Lord, dreaming of a family of your own, or somewhere in between: I promise this song is for you. Country star Gabby Barrett joined Brandon Lake for “For Me and My Home,” which is a bit different from Brandon’s normal sound. Here are some of the lyrics:
“As for me and my home, we will serve the Lord / As for me and my home, we believe in God / While on this side of the dirt, there’s just one hope that we hold…”
A Song Made for Family Declarations
These lyrics aren’t just words: they’re a family vision statement. You’re not just singing; you’re declaring where your hearts are rooted. Let that sink in: you’re boldly saying, Jesus first, always. Worship doesn’t only live in churches happens in kitchens, car rides, bath time, and every day-to-day task for you and your family.
Making Faith the Family Goal
It’s one thing to believe as individuals: it’s another to bind your family together in belief.
-
Deuteronomy 6:6–7: “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children… talk about them… at home and away…”
-
Joshua 24:15, the direct inspiration: “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
That verse isn’t just history: it’s a model because your family is making an eternal choice every day.
Brandon Lake, behind the camera, is just a dad making real-life decisions, trying to teach his kids what standing firm in faith looks like, even with miles between them.

Why It Resonates for Your Family
You’ve felt the weight of “Am I doing enough?” You’ve prayed for the desire for your kids’ hearts to cling to Jesus during middle school, college, and marriage- through it all.
This song nails that feeling in under four minutes. It’s a family anthem for messy kitchen floors and morning chaos.
Let the Music Say What You Feel
Here’s a simple challenge: play this song tonight at dinner. Or text your kids the link and say, “We still believe this.” Let it be more than background noise, let it be an anthem that you’re choosing Jesus over everything, together.
“As for me and my home: we will serve the Lord.”
Amen to that.
And to the person who hasn’t heard it lately- I’m proud of you. ❤️
