5 Things to Do When Christmas is Over

The days between Christmas and New Year’s can feel a little… awkward, right?

It’s that strange in-between time when you’re not sure if you should relax or be productive. The real question is —do we keep playing Christmas music?! Instead of letting the days blur together, why not use this time to do something meaningful? Here are five ideas to make the most of the post-Christmas lull.

1. Declutter and Donate

Christmas often brings new gifts into our homes, which is the perfect time to declutter and donate items you no longer need. As you tidy up, consider what gently used clothes, toys, or household items could bless someone else as donations at a local center. Start the new year with a fresh space and a giving heart, reflecting God’s call to care for others.

“If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.” | Luke 3:11 (NLT)

2. Reflect on the Year

We’re always focused on setting New Year’s Resolutions that we don’t take time to look back on the year that’s passed. Here are some fun and meaningful questions to ask yourself from the past year:

  • Where did you see God’s faithfulness?
  • What’s the most random thing I Googled in 2024?
  • Is there anything I need to let go of when I step into next year?
  • What are you proud of yourself for this year?
  • How many cups of coffee did you drink? How many naps did you take?

Writing down your thoughts in a journal or discussing these questions with loved ones can be a powerful way to thank God for His guidance and prepare your heart for the new year

But then I recall all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago.” | Psalm 77:11 (NLT)

3. Do a Digital Detox Day

We always hear this, but do you know how difficult it is to go no screens for 24 hours? With the busyness of Christmas behind you, why not take a break from the screens? Challenge yourself to reconnect with loved ones, go for a walk, enjoy the moment, and hear God’s voice more clearly.

4. Buy Christmas Decorations

This one is a bit silly, but the best deals on decorations happen right after Christmas. Stock up on lights, ornaments, and festive items for next year. My best friend and her mom have made it a tradition to visit Hobby Lobby the day after Christmas because everything is extremely marked down. So not only is it smart, but a fun way to connect with the Christmas decor lovers in your life.

5. Make Leftover Recipe’s

If your fridge is packed with Christmas leftovers, get creative in the kitchen! Whip up unique recipes like turkey soup or stuffing waffles. Turning leftovers into something new is a fun reminder that God often takes what we already have and transforms it into something even better. HERE are 50 Christmas leftover recipes to inspire you.
