Here is what I READ:

  • Jesus – “I am the gate for the sheep” (vs 7).
  • Entering through the gate brings salvation and pasture (vs 9).
  • By contrast, the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy (vs 10).
  • Jesus – “I am the good shepherd who sacrifices his life for the sheep” (vs 11).
  • Jesus – “I know my sheep…” (vs 14).
  • There are other sheep that must be brought in that are not of this sheepfold (vs 16).
  • Jesus sacrifices His life so that He can take it up again (vs 17-18).
  • The things Jesus declared to be true about Himself caused division (vs 19-21).

This passage reminds me of Psalm 23 – “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.”As the good shepherd, Jesus is the one who leads us in paths of His righteousness. He has saved us and forgiven us, not because of the good works that we have done, but because He loved us. He has become the gate that we enter to find salvation. He has laid down His life for us in the cross. And He has risen again and is alive to prove that He has power over death and sin.

APPLY:
“I know my sheep…” Sometimes you might feel unknown – but you are not forgotten by Jesus. He has shown you the full extent of His love in the cross, and I’m praying that if you’ve never given your heart to Him that you’ll reach out to Him in prayer today. Thank Him for being your good shepherd and ask Him to be your Savior.
