“Is it me Jesus… ?” The time for talk is over.
Reality TV has something for everyone—drama, alliances, betrayals, survival, and even a little home renovation. But have you ever been watching your favorite show and thought, Wait… this feels familiar?
That happened to me while watching The Traitors. The setup? A group of contestants work together to win a cash prize, but hidden among them are “traitors” secretly picking people off one by one. And suddenly, I couldn’t stop thinking about The Last Supper.
You just know the tension in that room was palpable. Jesus dropping the bomb that someone will betray Him. Everyone whispering, “Is it me, Jesus?” Meanwhile, Judas is sweating. Cut, print, and roll that tape- because I am glued to the screen. I just can’t help but imagine the scenarios when I’m reading these Bible stories.
Reality TV isn’t for everyone and I know that, but this is all for fun. Who knows? You may be inspired to read or re-read a Bible story with new eyes. Happy reading!
Esther | The Bachelor
📖 Bible Reference: Esther 1-10
The Show: The Bachelor follows a group of women competing for the affection (and final rose) of one eligible man.
The Bible Story: King Xerxes needs a new queen, so he basically holds an ancient version of The Bachelor. Women from all over the empire are brought in, pampered for a year, and presented to the king. (Yeah, it’s weird.) Esther wins his heart—and later risks everything to save her people from destruction.
Jesus in the Wilderness | Survivor
📖 Bible Reference: Matthew 4:1-11
The Show: Contestants on Survivor are dropped in the middle of nowhere with limited resources, forced to outwit, outplay, and outlast.
The Bible Story: Jesus goes 40 days without food or water in the wilderness—no tribe, no shelter, just Him and the elements. And then Satan shows up, tempting Him with food, power, and easy ways out. Jesus refuses to give in, proving He’s the ultimate Survivor—no alliances needed.
Rachael and Leah | Love is Blind
📖 Bible Reference: Genesis 29:15-30
The Show: On Love Is Blind, couples get engaged before ever seeing each other in person, only to face major surprises after the reveal.
The Bible Story: Jacob falls hard for Rachel and agrees to work for seven years to marry her. But on the wedding night, surprise—it’s her older sister, Leah, under the veil. Jacob then has to work another seven years for Rachel. If that’s not peak reality TV drama, I don’t know what is.
Tower of Babel | Fixer Upper (HGTV)
📖 Bible Reference: Genesis 11:1-9
The Show: Fixer Upper (and every other home reno show) is about ambitious projects that either succeed or go horribly wrong.
The Bible Story: A group of ambitious builders tries to construct a tower tall enough to reach heaven. God steps in and—plot twist—scrambles their languages so they can’t communicate. The project crumbles. This would probably be a heavy episode.
Joseph & His Older Brothers | Big Brother
📖 Bible Reference: Genesis 37, 39–45
The Show: Houseguests form alliances, scheme, and sometimes stab each other in the back—all while being watched 24/7.
The Bible Story: Joseph’s brothers were basically the original reality show villains. They were jealous of their father’s favoritism, plotted against Joseph, and ultimately voted him out by selling him into slavery. Joseph went from the bottom to the top, rising to power in Egypt and ultimately forgiving his brothers in an emotional season finale moment.
Moses Leading the Israelites | The Amazing Race
📖 Bible Reference: Exodus 13-14
The Show: The Amazing Race is all about teams traveling the world, navigating challenges, and making it to the finish line.
The Bible Story: Moses leads the Israelites out of Egypt and into a 40-year journey to the Promised Land. Along the way? Miracles, detours (the Red Sea), complaints, and literal manna from heaven. If this were a race, the Israelites would not be winning—because they got lost for decades.
Jesus Coming to Earth | Undercover Boss
📖 Bible Reference: John 1:14, Philippians 2:6-11
The Show: Undercover Boss follows CEOs disguising themselves as regular employees to see what’s really happening in their companies.
The Bible Story: Jesus, King of Kings, doesn’t just disguise Himself—He literally becomes human. He walks among people, eats with them, experiences their struggles, and ultimately gives His life for them. The biggest difference? He wasn’t undercover for His own benefit—He did it to save the world.
There’s a reason the Bible is called “The greatest story ever told.” My mom literally wrote on the inside of my childhood Bible “This book is filled with every story you could want- mystery, romance, action, and adventure.”
You have to admit—the Bible has some seriously dramatic stories. Betrayals, love triangles, survival challenges, and big reveals? It’s all in there.
But the best part? These aren’t just entertaining stories. They point to something bigger—God’s plan, and His love. And unlike reality TV, that story isn’t scripted. It’s real.
