5 Things You Didn’t Know About Brandon Lake’s New “KING OF HEARTS” Album

Whether he’s on American Idol, Jimmy Kimmel, or literally playing with fire, Brandon Lake is always keeping us on our toes. His new album KING OF HEARTS will push boundaries and is different from anything he’s done in the past.

KING OF HEARTS will be wild, worshipful, and it might just be Brandon’s most honest project yet. Plus, if you pre-order the album all of the proceeds are going to Bread of Life Ministries to help children in poverty.

So while you’re debating that pre-order and before the full album drops June 13th, here are 5 things you should know about KING OF HEARTS:

1. Rock, Country, and Rap?

Four songs on the album have already released: Hard Fought Hallelujah, Daddy’s DNA, SEVENS, and That’s Who I Praise. Brandon didn’t stick to just one style this time. This album covers five genres: yes, five. You’ve got worship (of course), gospel, rap, pop, and a little country sprinkled in.

The collab with Jelly Roll on “Hard Fought Hallelujah” might just be one of the most unexpected pairings in Christian music and it works.

2. The Collabs

Speaking of unexpected: CeCe Winans, Hulvey, Jelly Roll all on the same album.

  • CeCe on “I Know a Name” is straight-up goosebumps.

  • Rap artist Hulvey on “Right In the Middle” (if you liked “Count ‘Em,” you’ll love this).

  • And we’ve all heard it- Jelly Roll brings that southern soul on “Hard Fought Hallelujah” like nobody else can.

3. How It Started

Brandon has said this album is for people who are being honest with God. Not polished. Not perfect. Just real. He’s leaning into the fact that God wants our hearts: mess and all. It’s worship that meets you in the middle of the chaos.

4. The Tour

Brandon Lake has already announced his tour for the album but what you may have not known is- that he’s bringing Pat Barrett and Franni Rae along for the ride.

Pat Barrett has been joining Brandon in the new group Sons of Sunday and Franni has been busy releasing solo songs and pursuing her first-ever solo career. Here’s a video of Franni listening to SEVENS for the very first time.

5. This Album is Making History

Even before the album dropped, two of the singles “That’s Who I Praise” and “Hard Fought Hallelujah” skyrocketed. One of them even hit the Billboard Hot 100, with Forrest Frank‘s “Your Way’s Better.” This is the first time in 11 years that two Christian songs have simultaneously topped the charts.

You can tell this album isn’t just about hype, it’s about heart.

If you’ve only heard a few songs from King of Hearts, do yourself a favor and listen to the full thing. Start to finish. It’s bold. It’s honest. It’s the kind of album that makes you feel seen and reminds you that you’re not alone in the fight.

Here’s to many more years of thriving worship in the music industry! Jesus is king!
