Running out of ideas?
Let’s face it, sometimes Christmas feels impossible. If gifts are one of your love languages, you might find yourself stressing over the “perfect” present for everyone in your life. I know I’ve been there—pouring so much energy into finding intentional, meaningful gifts to make people feel seen and loved that I end up stuck in indecision. Then, suddenly, Christmas is just around the corner, and I’ve got nothing.
If you’re in the same boat, I’ve got a few simple, thoughtful ideas for gifts you can make or give with intention. But let me also challenge you this season: the gifts you give or buy don’t define how much you love someone, and they don’t determine how much you’re loved in return.
It’s always nice to give and receive, but your presence, kindness, and love are what truly make people feel valued. So take a deep breath, embrace what you have to give, and remember that even Jesus Himself does not expect you to be perfect.
1. Homemade Ornament
You could make this with materials at home by using clay or making salt dough with paints, markers, and crayons. One option is to buy premade wooden ornaments to paint or color that you can buy on Amazon, Hobby Lobby, and other retailers. Make an ornament of a character from their favorite Christmas movie, something they love, or a simple design with your names and how long you’ve been friends. Tie it all together with some string, and you’ve got a unique keepsake.
2. A Framed Quote, List, or Song Lyric
This is perfect for the sentimental people in your life. Choose something meaningful—a favorite quote, a Bible verse, or the lyrics to a song that reminds you of them—and frame it. You can get creative by decorating the frame or adding pictures.
For example:
- Write out “Things I Love About You” for a close friend.
- Make a list of lessons learned from a parent or mentor.
- Frame the lyrics of a song they wrote or love.
3. Hot Chocolate on a Stick
This is a great idea if you need a simple gift for a large group of people. You can follow this recipe to make melts that others can dissolve in a cup of warm milk for delicious hot chocolate!
4. Create a personalized “kit” for an activity you can do together!
This idea is ideal for people who value experiences over material things. Create a kit centered around an activity you can enjoy together or that they can share with their loved ones.
Here are a few ideas:
- Movie Night Kit: Include popcorn, candy, a cozy blanket, popcorn buckets, their favorite drinks, and maybe a food delivery gift card.
- Spa Day Kit: Pack face masks, a weighted blanket, lotion, candles, and a massager (for back or feet).
- Crafting Kit: Include a paint-by-numbers set, paints, brushes, and their favorite snacks.
5. Score-Keeping Book
For the family or friend who loves board games, a score-keeping book is both practical and fun. These books track the scores of every game played, creating a record of memories over time. Pair it with a new board game or accessories for a complete and thoughtful gift, you can find it here.
As we celebrate Jesus’ birth, let’s remember the joy of giving doesn’t come from the price tag but from the heart behind it. I hope these ideas spark inspiration and help you create something special for those you care about. Merry Christmas!
