Hippity Hoppity Easter’s on its way…
Easter is legitimately my favorite holiday. I would also make an argument that the commercial side of Easter makes it the girliest holiday as well. Painting and dyeing little eggs while you wear your pretty spring dresses and eat chocolate? Sign me up.
I remember my mom getting out the infamous resurrection story eggs while unpacking Easter decorations.
Every year, when our family and friends gathered to dye easter eggs and do egg hunts, my mom or someone would sit down and show us the story of Jesus’ resurrection using small objects like coins and leaves. As a kid, I would always get excited and spoil it for the other kids that the last egg would be empty to represent the empty tomb. Here’s a picture for reference:
Some of the traditions that our family did during Easter, made memories that have lasted a lifetime. Here are a few fun and meaningful activities for you and your family to grow closer to each other and the Lord!
1. Pray Together | Spring Prayer Walk
This is the perfect activity for a warm spring day. Visit a local park or even just a stroll down the street you live on. Take in your surroundings and pray individually as you walk. Once you guys reach your destination, talk about what you discovered, and pray together. If you have little ones, maybe point out things in God’s creation on the journey and thank Him!
Here are some possible things to pray about on the walk:
- Look around you, take a deep breath. What around you in God’s creation are you thankful for?
- Jesus carried His cross and held the weight of the world. What is weighing you down? How can Jesus help you carry your cross?
2. Reflect Together | Egg Time Machine
Take some plastic eggs and have each member of your family write a small note. Place the small pieces of paper into the plastic eggs and save them to put in Easter baskets or to open up next year! You could write an encouraging Bible verse or something you are praying and believing for your family or yourself within the next year.
3. Play Together | Make a Peeps House
You’ve heard of a gingerbread house…but have you heard of a peeps house? It’s pretty self-explanatory, but you can build a peeps house with graham crackers, marshmallow fluff, jelly beans, sugar sprinkles, and anything else your heart desires. If you want to make a small garden to go around your house just take some coconut flakes and roll it around in some green food dye and you’ve got grass! My maw maw and I have the tradition of making bunny cakes together every year and these fun little houses are a great way to start!
4. Study God’s Word Together | Road to Easter Bible Study
As believers, we talk about Palm Sunday and resurrection week in this season…but what about everything that came before?
The Road to Easter: God’s Eternal Plan is a devotional Bible study that traces God’s redemptive story from creation through the first Passover to the cross and resurrection. It reveals how every step was intentionally woven into His eternal plan for salvation – to rescue you!
