Growing up can be weird. As soon as you hit certain benchmarks, people expect you just to know things. However, sometimes those things take awhile to learn. As I scrolled through Twitter, there were a few tweets that made me feel like I wasn’t alone in the adulting journey.

1. PROCRASTINATION

When people ask me if I’m prone to procrastinate, honestly I’m not. However, when it comes to keeping gas in my car, that’s an entirely different story. So, I’m glad that I’m not alone in this because it’s such an easy thing to do, I just don’t  do it.

2.BOUNDARIES

One of the hardest realizations I’ve had as I’ve gotten older is that sometimes losing friends is a part of life. As you grow and set boundaries for yourself, some people don’t want to stick around and that’s okay. However, the one’s that do stick around are the ones worth having.

3.FINANCES

If anyone knows me, they know that I love my budget. I have my Google Sheets file set up with formulas and color codes. And even though I’ve always been intentional with my finances, learning that just because I have the money to pay for it now, doesn’t necessarily mean I have the ability to afford it in the future.

4.EMOTIONS

Feeling your feelings is never a bad thing. But, being led by your feelings can be. For me, I have the tendency to suppress mine. To get through the day and push everything down because it seems easier. But, part of being compassionate and gracious to others is knowing what’s going on in your own heart.

5.EXAUSTION

In college I could go days without sleeping or taking part of any sort of self-care routine. As you get older, you can’t run from the exhaustion as easily. Whether that being physically tired or spiritually drained, feelings of exhaustion can put you in a hopeless place. Being someone who struggles with depression, I have learned that I need to rest. To stop what I’m doing and just be with God, spend time with my family or go do something refreshing with my friends. We want to hustle so hard, but at what cost?

Adulting can be hard, but I am so glad that I can be reminded that I’m not alone, even if it’s not in the most likely of places. Everyone is out here trying to learn and put Galatian 5 into practice.
