Danny Gokey and Colton Dixon Honor Mandisa on American Idol

“She came in praising and she left praising. Our loss is heaven’s gain.” | Colton Dixon

Mandisa passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024. We were instant fans when she first appeared on Season 5 of American Idol, and since then she has left her mark on the Christian music industry forever with her songs  “Good Morning,”“Overcomer,” and “Stronger.”

But Mandisa is so much more than just the music she made. Mandisa radiated kindness and love. Check out this amazing tribute from American Idol with former American Idol finalists Melinda Doolittle, Colton Dixon, and Danny Gokey.

“She was a fan of people. She was a cheerleader for other people’s music.” | Danny Gokey

The song “Shackles” by Mary Mary was chosen because Mandisa loved praise music, but also because she actually performed the song herself on the show in 2006.

When other Christian artists say that she had a “powerhouse” of a voice, it all makes sense after hearing this performance. Talk about full-body chills.

Countless lives have been impacted by Mandisa through her music and her kindness. We all can learn powerful lessons from her wisdom and how she used her talent to glorify God!

“Your addiction, situation, and lifestyle may be big, but God is bigger.” | Mandisa
