6 Unlikely Christian and Mainstream Collaborations

I bet they laughed when the first woman on the planet decided to put jelly on her peanut butter sandwich.

But years later, kids and moms everywhere are thankful for that genius move.

Sometimes, unexpected combinations just… work. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, books and bathtubs, and pineapple on pizza. (Okay, I know that last one is a bit controversial, but you get the point.)

The same goes for music. God can use anyone—and any type of music—to speak to people. As believers, it’s always exciting to see unexpected artists work together because it brings worship to different genres and fan bases.

Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll

Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll teaming up? Not on my bingo card, but wow, did it deliver! The worship leader and country star joined forces for a powerful moment that blurred the lines between genres and backgrounds to perform what Jelly Roll calls “The worship song for sinners.”

Switchfoot and Jonas Brothers

Not only did the Jonas Brothers sign up to help with this reimagining of their album “The Beautiful Letdown.” But the Jonas Brothers actually grew up listening to their music and took a lot of inspiration in creating their own!

for KING + COUNTRY and Lee Brice

Grab the tissues. Lee Brice’s comforting country vocals alongside for KING + COUNTRY’s signature cinematic sound make this one hit deep. Tying directly to the plot of Luke and Joel’s family movie, Unsung Hero.

Forrest Frank and Connor Price

Forrest Frank is already blurring the line between worship and mainstream music, and teaming up with rapper Connor Price took it to another level. Not to mention, he’s reaching a new generation because his songs are consistently going viral on TikTok.

Steven Malcolm and Snoop Dogg

You’re gonna want to add this to your beach vacation playlist. Christian hip-hop artist Steven Malcolm tapped the rap legend for this feel-good summer anthem. This song is a good reminder that sometimes, music can just be fun.

Anne Wilson and Lainey Wilson

Two powerhouse Wilsons—Anne and Lainey—coming together for a song about the power of prayer? Yes, please. Anne Wilson has already been expanding in the country space by touring with Scotty McCreery, and this is just another way that worship is reaching country fans.

*Bonus* Walker Hayes and MercyMe

Walker Hayes recently teamed up to write with MercyMe in what I’m calling “The Happiest Song About Death.” You can hear a small piece of it in this adorable video of him singing with his daughter.

Faith doesn’t fit in a box.

God has always used unlikely people to do incredible things—so why wouldn’t He use an unexpected song to reach someone’s heart?

Next time a collaboration surprises you, don’t write it off too soon. You never know who might need to hear it.
